Wellness and studio sports

The Thomas Gifford Room can cater for all types of small class or studio sports, therapies, dance, martial arts and general wellbeing activities. It has a sprung floor, mirrors and a dance barre. Curtains and blinds can be drawn so that it is fully private.

The classes currently on offer are listed below together with the contact for the course leader. Generally the instructor will book and pay for the hire of the room and you will pay them directly, unless stated otherwise. Please contact the instructor if you would like to join any of the classes.

Circuit Training & LEANGym



Commit to get fit with circuit training classes from our own Jason Biles. Wednesday’s LEANGym is a gym based class using our  Community Gym facility. It is a  gym based circuit class that suits all fitness abilities and is aimed at helping you make changes to your Lifestyle, Exercise and Nutrition. We can  help you set some realistic goals that will make positive changes in your life all year round.


Over the next few weeks, Jason will be  adding some exercises that will help you prepare if you are going skiing this winter (though obviously they are also good for you even if you aren’t skiing). So if you plan to ski, why not come along to Sunday Circuits? If you can’t make Sundays he will also do the same during Super Circuits, but booking is essential if you are new to that class, as it gets busy.



Sunday Circuits are open to all ages; juniors only pay £3.  Under 11s need to come with an adult.

Jason is teaching two line dancing classes. He describes it as “the most fun you’ll have with your boots on”! Though boots are not required – you can wear anything you feel comfortable in!


  • Line Dancing – Tuesdays 12-1pm
  • Line Dancing  – Fridays 11.30am-12.30pm (this class is now getting full, so please email Jason@charlburycommunitycentre.org.uk if you want to join a waiting list).
  • Price £5 but only £3 for over 65s

Gentle exercise, lots of fun and good for the co-ordination and the memory


Simple strength, balance, flexibility and mobility is the focus for this class. A chair is used as a support as well as a range of equipment. As the class progresses, some time will be spent working on practising going down and up from the floor (or kneeling). This class is ideal for people who are worried about their balance.

  • Strength & Balance – Mondays 1.15-2.15pm and 2.30-3.30pm

Consecutive classes held at Charlbury Community Centre at 1.15pm and at 2.30pm every Monday during term time except Bank Holidays. £5 per session – your first session is free. Feldenkrais Classes (awareness through movement)

with Ed:

  • Wednesdays  12.30-1.30pm

Feldenkrais is a wonderful method of mind/body connection. It is taught in hour long classes called Awareness Through Movement and as a one-to-one practice too. It is a great compliment to many other activities, yoga, and pilates amongst them. The classes bring a person into a much clearer understanding of how they actually move, and offer up, over time, a new set of sensations as to how to carry out a whole range of things, from sport, to performance and simply to everyday life. Cost: £5 to try it,  £10 drop in, £7.50 per class if you pay for the term.
